Broken Beginnings
About
Before he was the light of a broken Realm, he was a boy who lost everything.
Thane Matthias had it all: a passion for sports, a circle of friends, and a mother who was his entire world. To Thane, life was perfect. But perfection is the most fragile illusion of all.
On a seemingly ordinary Wednesday night, the darkness finally stopped waiting. In one violent, devastating moment, Thane’s mother was ripped from his side, bringing his happiness to a screeching halt. Thrust into a strange new home with a girl who wears a fox-eared headband and secrets she can't yet name, Thane is forced to trade his carefree days for a world of shadows and steel.
This is the raw, unvarnished story of a boy forged in the fires of grief. Before the magic, before the war, and before the legend, there was only a broken beginning.
Praise for this book
This was everything that I was hoping for in a sixth book, it had that element that I was expecting and enjoyed overall. The world worked with everything that I was looking for and enjoyed the fantasy element in this plot. The characters worked with everything that I wanted and glad I read this. CR Rice does a great job in this and the rest of the Realm series.
This was a rather striking novella. I was not expecting THAT to be his origin story. The fact that he went caring, protective, good big brother over villian, that is something I think deserves a reward or parade or something.
A broken angry boy makes his choice to be a great young man in spite of a horrific tragedy!
Broken Beginnings by C. R. Rice shows how our personal choices can make us or break us after a heart breaking tragedy. The choice is always ours and Thane shows the stuff he is made of who become a great young man who protects and is always there for those he loves and cares for, rather than playing a victim. What a great job by the writer showing us so many sides of this main character from The Realm Series.
