Book #6 from the series: The Heart Realm

Broken Beginnings

The Story of Thane

About

Meet Thane Matthias: adoptive brother to the Realm’s lost heir, best friend to a man with terrible dessert choices, the lighthearted soul everyone loves, and a swordsman to be reckoned with.

But before he plunged headfirst into a world of magic and war, Thane was just an ordinary kid with an extraordinary life. Days spent playing sports, laughing with friends, and sharing every moment with his mother made his world feel perfect. Yet, perfection is a fragile thing—and Thane’s happiness shatters one fateful night.

On a seemingly ordinary Wednesday, darkness descends, tearing his mother from him in one devastating moment. Angry, lost, and alone, Thane is sent to live with a strange woman and her fox-eared daughter, where his journey from a carefree boy to a reluctant hero begins. Every hero has an origin story, and this is Thane’s—a tale of heartbreak, resilience, and the unbreakable spirit that will forge him into a legend.

Praise for this book

This was everything that I was hoping for in a sixth book, it had that element that I was expecting and enjoyed overall. The world worked with everything that I was looking for and enjoyed the fantasy element in this plot. The characters worked with everything that I wanted and glad I read this. CR Rice does a great job in this and the rest of the Realm series.

This was a rather striking novella. I was not expecting THAT to be his origin story. The fact that he went caring, protective, good big brother over villian, that is something I think deserves a reward or parade or something.

A broken angry boy makes his choice to be a great young man in spite of a horrific tragedy!
Broken Beginnings by C. R. Rice shows how our personal choices can make us or break us after a heart breaking tragedy. The choice is always ours and Thane shows the stuff he is made of who become a great young man who protects and is always there for those he loves and cares for, rather than playing a victim. What a great job by the writer showing us so many sides of this main character from The Realm Series.
